What is your favorite dessert?

This year is soon coming to an end that means that the holidays are here.  The truth is that this time of year many people end up overindulging in sweets a bit too much.  Personally, I try to lose some weight in preparation for all the extra candy boxes I end up consuming.  It is simply part of the holidays and something that I have come to live with.  But this year will be a bit different I think.  The change in how our country is going to deal with COVID-19 is affecting how we celebrate our holidays too.  It is a bit sad to see so many families that need to be together being told by the government that they are not legally allowed to see each other.  Apparently, our constitution does not matter much anymore.  But that is a little beyond the point.  I want to talk about my favorite holiday treats this year.

For some people, their favorite holiday treat is actually straight-up sweet.  Many people just go and pick up their favorite candy boxes that they have neglected over the whole year and dive right in.  I am a big fan of Snickers myself and I usually end up finding a whole one or two in my stocking.  That is not a bad thing at all as those delectable and classic treats like Hersheys are not only great on their own but also in cookies.

One of my favorites treats is the Hershey cookie.  It so good and tasty when my family makes them.  My mothers is especially good at the sugar cookie crust and nice and tasty Hershey kiss that goes in the middle once it is ready.  I have found these to be a staple at our holiday gatherings and it is definitely one of my top deserts.

But if I am being honest another one of my favorites is the one my wife and I make together.  Each Christmas we go out and get the ingredients to make a nice and homemade apple pie.  We make the entire thing from scratch and end up usually making two of them.  These are a fantastic treat and something the entire family enjoys.  Although we generally make it when we are visiting her family so only half the entire family gets to enjoy them.  Still, it is a time that I look forward to each and every single year and it may be my favorite dessert for the holidays.

Another very high mention that is a bit surprising is also a family favorite.  It is not really even a desert but a side dish that we end up treating like a desert.  The holiday mashed potatoes from both sides of our family are incredible.  They are definitely a top favorite and for some, I think they make the best dessert because they are simply the best food of the year.  It is shocking what can be considered a desert and what can be considered a side dish.  But I think it is all in the eyes of the beholder what is best.  That is the best part of the holidays and that may actually be our differences in what we love. So I hope you get to enjoy your favorite dessert this year and I wish you a happy holiday.
